January Weather and Diving

January 2026 was sunny, just as the previous years. But unlike the years before, there was a lot of wind. In 2025 we experienced similar; i was not as calm as it can be.
All in all we had 24 really sunny days and no rain at all during the day. On only 2 days we saw a little bit of rain in the evening or night.
We did see 23 days with a moderate or strong wind, just as last year above average for January. So all in all nice but due to the wind not the really nice diving month that January can be.
In 2014 to 2017 diving at our housereef here in Kata was possible on all days but 2,
in 2018 we could dive all days,
in 2019 on 4 days we could not dive at the housereef. Richelieu Rock, North of the Similans, could not be reached on a
few days, just as in previous years, and also King Cruiser-Shark Point area we could not safely dive at on 2 days.
In 2017 we were more limited, but normally we can in January go to all destinations without any issues.
In 2019 however on 2 days we were not allowed to go out due to a weather warning, even though the weather system
never really reached Phuket and diving would have been possible at all destinations.
In 2020 and 2021 we
could dive everywhere on all days of the month.
In 2022 on 1 day we could not dive safely at our housereef at kata Beach,
on 3 days we could dive but with bad surface and under water conditions.
In 2023 there was only one day where conditions
were not comfortable in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area and at the housereef here in Kata.
In 2024 on 7 days we could not
dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area and on 10 days not safely and comfortably at our housereef. On one day there was not
much wind but a jelly fish infestation prevented comfortable and fun diving at Kata Beach.
In 2025 there was no jellyfish infestation, but on 7 days we could not safely and comfortably dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area and on 9 days not safely and comfortably at our housereef.
This year there was on 2 days a jellyfish infestation, but on 5 days we could not comfortably dive at our housereef, on 3 dives diving there was no safe diving at Kata Beach.
