August Weather and Diving

August 2023 - 2022 - 2021 - 2020 - 2019 - 2018 - 2017 - 2016 - 2015 - 2014 - 2013

August 2020 was, just as 2018 and 2017, as good as it gets in August. 2021 was less sunny, we saw more wet days and more windy days. Due to not many tourists the diving was excellent with great visibility, even though we were limited to Racha Noi and Racha Yai, with the occasional trip to Koh Maithon and Koh Doc Mai. 2022 was about average, this year was average weatherwise but we experienced more wet and windy days that affected diving..

All in all we had 23 days with lots of sun, 9 days with some rain during the day and 5 really wet days. On 14 days we had very calm weather with just a slight breeze, on 17 days the wind was stronger.

In 2014 on two days we could not dive in the Shark Point area, in 2013 on one day we could only dive at our alternate destination of Coral Island and on another day we could not go to Racha Noi Island. In 2015 on two days we were limited to Coral Island, on four days to Racha Yai and on four days we were not able to dive in the Shark Point area, all in all ten days where we were limited in dive destinations. 2016 was the first year in which thankfully Coral Island was not used as an alternate destination, so on 9 days we were limited to Racha Yai, on 2 days to Racha Noi and Racha Yai and on 4 days we could not safely dive in the Shark Point area, the worst year in living history. In 2017 on 2 days we were limited to Racha Yai, on one day we could only dive Racha Noi and Racha yai and on 2 days we could not dive in the King Cruiser/Shark Point area, in 2018 on 2 days there was no diving at all, on 6 days we were limited to Racha Yai, and on 3 more days we could not comfortably and safely dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area. In 2019 it became again very clear that we take more the comfort and safety of our guests into account than some of the others: we cancelled when others waited till the morning and till other boats cancelled, and on one day the boats turned around while we had already cancelled the morning before. In 2020 on 2 days we were limited to Racha Yai, on all other days diving would have been possible at all destinations, in 2021 on 4 days we would have been limited to Racha Noi and Racha Yai, on 1 day King Cruiser and Shark Point would not have been safe. In 2022 on 2 days we were limited to Racha Noi and Racha Yai, on 3 days we could not dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area.
This year on 4 days we were limited to Racha Yai, on 13 to Racha Noi and Racha Yai and on 4 days we could not dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area.

In 2021 due to not many tourists the number of shark sightings at the Rachas had increased tremendously, with also quite a few dolphon sightings (from the boat), besides of course at Koh Maithon where we see them regularly, these last few years were again back to normal with occasional sightings.
