April Weather and Diving
April 2020 - 2019 - 2018 - 2017 - 2016 - 2015 - 2014 - 2013 - 2012 - 2011 - 2010
April 2020 was the way it is supposed to be: nearly no wind and what looked like excellent diving conditions. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 issues all diving was prohibited. In 2019 we had again manta ray sightings, most of the sightings at Koh Bon and Koh Tachai in the Similans National Park and Hin Daeng and Hin Muang in the South, just as in 2016 and 2017 mamy sightings, considerably more than in 2018. But there were not as many whaleshark sightings in 2019. Besides Richelieu Rock, where most were spotted, there were also sightings in the Phi Phi and Shark Point areas.
Weather wise it was also as usual just not enough rain. All in all we had 27 nice and sunny days with on 9 days some clouds and on 10 days some rain, exclusively at night, mostly just some drops. Only at the end of the month we saw some more rain at night, finally. We only had three really overcast days.
With diving prohibited no information on our ability to reach the divesites, but judging from home it looked like we would havfe been able to reach all sites on every day, just one day where due to rainfall the evening before diving at the housereef probably would not have been very nice. The diving at both the local sites (Phi Phi area, Shark Point area, Racha islands) and the liveaboard destinations (Similans, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock plus the Southern destinations Hin Daeng, Hin Muang and Koh Haa) was in 2017 possible every day, in 2018 we had one day where we could not dive in the King Cruiser-Shark Point area and at Richelieu Rock, in 2019 we could dive at all destinations every day of the month. Diving at our housereef here at Kata Beach was possible every day. We'll start again diving at our housereef in November, at the other sites as soon as allowed and safe.
