Hi Steven, I am back at home… The plane was in late at Bangkok too, so we came back in Italy six hours later……… awful… Never fly with Blue Panorama!
Well, I just wanted to thank you for the nice days I spent in Phuket… I hope to come back as soon as possible…
See you soon (hope)…
Bye…
Luca

Big thanks for a great time in Kata April 2005… Through all your recommendations and help, you made sure that I had a fantastic holiday

I really loved the diving - both "local" dives and the Similan/Surin liveaboard trip… First of all, you booked me on great boats - secondly, I could see for myself that diving in the Andaman See has not been ruined by the Tsunami, despite what the European press has communicated… I had some spectacular dives and a new favourite divesite :)

Steven + J-P, I highly appreciate all your help and assistance - 'll definitely be back (threat or promise ????), maybe even for my DM ;)

Take care, see you next season
Karin

Just a day before leaving for the diving holiday to Phuket, Thailand, that our group of eight people had planned, the horrible news of the tsunami reached us… What to do? Several e-mails to the dive centre where we had booked the liveaboard were answered within 20 minutes and eventually made us decide to go… Although it seems hard to have a holiday in a country with so much recent drama, local people convinced us that the best help they could get, was not to cancel the trip and still come to Phuket…

Once we got to Phuket the situation seemed, as opposed to all the media coverage, quite normal… The infrastructure was (nearly) undamaged, the beaches we came across looked fine and our place of departure for the liveaboard, Kata beach, was untouched… Since the sewage- and watersystems (at least in Kata) were not damaged by the tsunami, there was no risk of any infectious disease outbreak…

After boarding our boat, the cruise director (Mark) told us that we could not dive the southern islands (Koh Phi Phi and Hin Duang), because of the tsunami… These reefs were too close to the area that got hit really badly and the local authorities had closed the waters around these islands for tourism… But all the northern islands (Similan and Surin) were open for diving… Since Mark had already dived these reefs after the tsunami, he had good information on the state of the reefs… And, as we found out for ourselves the following days, most reefs were (nearly) untouched by the tsunami… There was some damage of course, but most of the corals were in a good condition…and full of marine life… The reefs were crowded with fish and we even got to see some mantas! Important point is that, unlike what most of the international media is reporting, the waters around the Similan and Surin islands are not full of debris… Sure, you’ll see some occasional tree floating around, but in general the sea is clean… Last but not least, we didn’t experience any problems caused by any possible aftershocks…

The general point we’re trying to make is that your decision whether to go to Thailand for a holiday or not should not be made on reports form the international media… Check local authorities (like the TAT – Thai Tourism Authority, dive centers or hotels) for the specific situation at your destination… The best way to help the Thai people is to spend your holiday here… Their economy thrives on tourism, so by canceling your holidays you’ll only make matters worse… And the Thai people really are happy to see you here… We had a great holiday with some amazing diving…

We arrived in Kata 2 days after the tsunami had struck the coast of Thailand… We had been in contact with Steven on 26th December and he had given us a measured view of the situation in Phuket… We arrived on the 28th and stayed for 3 days at a hotel in Kata… We ate at the restaurants, everything was fine and there was no shortage of food or drinking water… The liveaboard set sail on 31st… We had heard some horror stories about the area of Phi Phi and rescue work was still going on so our liveaboard headed north to the Similans and Richilieu Rock… We shared the trip with 10 Dutch and had a great time… The diving was good, Richilieu was excellent… There was some coral damage on the island dive sites with some sand covering corals so we helped in turning coral the right way round, resiting fans and removing sand etc… There were loads of fish and we even saw our first (and second) Manta Ray at Koh Bon… Although a tragedy has happened in South Asia please think before going elsewhere… The Thais are so friendly, they need their businesses supported at this sad time and they need us to still come here… The diving hasnt been spoilt… Some areas are gone but the experts know where to find the good areas, so stick with them! Steven was an excellent guide (and tour operator as he sorted out our hotel too!)… We cannot recommend him highly enough… He gave us honest advice and information and let us make our own decision and we are really glad we came…

Hi all,
We did the open water & adavanced open water course at the Similans and you couldn't ask for better… Thanks to Jean-Paul for everything - great instructor… However, if Jean-Paul is your instructor - be prepared for a bizarre sense of humour ………… oh and that hat!

The 7 Danes are back in Copenhagen with tanned faces and big smiles… We had a great trip to the Similan Islands…

It was a long time dream of mine to dive the Similans and Stephen made it possible in the smoothest possible way…

I was planning a trip for 6 friends and myself and all along Stephen was very helpful in accomodating all of our wishes, changes of dates, questions etc…

Once we got to Kata Beach Stephen took us out on a nice and quiet refresher dive off the beach… Then he sent us off on the M/V Parinee on a four day liveaboard cruise…

The trip went beautifully - as an omen of things to come we encountered a huge Manta on not just the first, but the first two dives…

So thanks to Stephen for setting everything up… Anyone considering going to Kata Beach can safely send Stephen an e-mail… He's always ready to answer and once you get there he always welcomes you with open arms in front of his shop with a cold glas of water…

Best regards

One of the most impressive dives we made was the wreck dive to the ‘King fisher’ an 80m long car ferry that sunk a couple of years ago (no cars or persons aboard)…

It has been a real privilege to learn more about diving and how to dive with such good divers!! The organisation of Sea Bees Kata is superb, making diving (and safety) what it should be: FUN!! Good luck, continue the good work and, as we say in our country, um grande abraco e beijinhos para os nossos amigos Jürgen e Steven!!
PARABENS!!! We see you next year, Francisca and Ricardo"
